Precision Preservation: Porsche 356B Mechanical Restoration
When a classic Porsche 356b enters the shop, the goal is always to balance preservation with high-performance reliability. Our current mechanical restoration focused on the core systems that define this legendary driving experience. By methodically addressing the engine, fuel, and exhaust systems, we are returning this vintage icon to the road with confidence.
Engine Overhaul: From Removal to Reassembly
The heart of the Porsche 356b restoration began with a complete engine removal and partial disassembly. Our technicians removed many components for a rigorous inspection. We found. many items that were missing or needed replaced. For instance, all new clutch, pressure plate and flywheel assembly.
-
Thorough Cleaning: Firstly, we removed and cleaned many external engine components. Then, we inspected many parts to ensure everything was correct. For example, we performed a valve adjustment and resealed the valve covers.
-
Reassembly: Secondly, we reassembled the engine using new seals, gaskets and all new fuel hoses. We also installed all new engine pan gaskets to make sure it has proper sealing.
-
Installation: Next, we applied a fresh coat of paint to some parts. This will maintain that “showroom” appearance. Furthermore, we installed the engine on the transmission. The engine was preassembled with the newly acquired clutch, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing.
Fuel and Exhaust Systems
A healthy engine requires a perfect fuel delivery and exhaust setup. We focused on ensuring the Porsche 356b received clean fuel and efficiently cleared its exhaust gases.
-
Fuel Tank Service: We drained and inspected the fuel tank for any internal rust or debris. To protect it for the future, we removed and replaced all of the fuel components.
-
Carburetor inspection: We removed the factory twin dual barrel Solex carburetors. For instance, we inspected the floats, needle valves, and gaskets, resetting them to factory standards.
-
Exhaust Installation: We will be installing a proper exhaust system and restoring it back to OEM. Ensuring all hangers and seals were tight to prevent leaks and maintain that classic air-cooled Porsche sound.
Transmission and Drivetrain Integration
The restoration also included a full service of the standard transmission. We drained the old fluid and refilled it with high-quality gear lube while inspecting for any leaks. To ensure smooth power delivery, we replaced the axle boots on both axles and adjusted the clutch for a perfect release.
