Custom Porsche Cayman

Today our customer picked up his 2014 Custom Porsche Cayman. The wheels were originally bronze and it looked like a bland white Porsche when he came in for his free quote. Our customer wanted to do some specific modifications to his car. His requests were to powder coat the wheels Porsche Silver, tint the headlights, tail lights, side markers, 3rd brake light, fog light trim and install the Porsche Cayman R decal kit. He came in a few weeks ago for a consultation. On his to do list, he wanted to spray tint all the lighting. We highly advised him to go a different way. It would be very difficult to the finish perfect and might turn out the way he wanted.

The other solution was tinting film. This this would make it much easier and cost effective to install. He agreed with our solutions and booked the appointment. About a week later he returned for us to transform his car into his own Custom Porsche Cayman. We performed all of the items he requested in just over a week. While performing the customization, we also found leaks in two his TPMS sensors We were able to rebuild them just before he arrived to pick it up. As you can see this car is uniquely his and it would be hard not to check this out when walking by in a parking lot.

Last week our customer David dropped his car off for an air suspension upgrade and a Cobb access port performance tune. Here are some of the photos we took during the installation.

Porsche 914

In the shop this week: This sweet 1973 Porsche 914 1.7L. Our customer brought this In for some much needed maintenance and repair. The car was having issues starting and running rough. After discussing the symptoms with our customer, we knew right away that the ignition switch and ignition coil needed to be inspected tested. We tested the ignition coil with a multi meter and it was producing over four times the resistance it should have been on the terminals and plug wire terminal. We then pulled the ignition switch and sure enough, a big crack down the side. We replaced those with new plug wires, breather and vacuum hoses. Now this Porsche fires up on the first crank every time.

2018 Mini Cooper H&R Lower Springs Install

Yesterday we completed an H&R lowering spring install on a 2018 Mini Cooper S Edition 7. This car comes from the factory with a sporty suspension, but not everybody likes the softer feel of it. The H&R lowering springs will change that spring rate to a slightly stiffer one while maintaining a comfortable ride. These lowering springs will lower the car approximately 1.1″ in the front and back.

Lowering springs and alignment.

Before, on the day of purchase.

Since this is such a new platform, there is little information available. However, the F56 platform is the same throughout all 2014-2018 Mini Cooper S models.

After removing the stock suspension and installing the lowering springs, we put the car up on the alignment rack to get everything straighten out. The camber was set a little in at 1.75º, this gives the car a little better handling characteristics in the corners. Tire wear should be minimal with this camber setting.

Note for Springs

We also highly suggest changing the shocks and struts at the same time. The stock shocks and struts are not rated for lowering springs. This will increase the pressure inside the shocks over a shorter period of time. Furthermore, it may blow out over 6 months to a year due to the fact that the spring is shorter than OEM springs. The shocks are designed to dampen at the full length / throw of the shock. We highly suggest installing a Bilstein B6 shock if you would like to do lowering springs only. For around the same price, you can install a dampening adjustable coilover kit, which also has high adjustability. We informed the customer of this, however they opted out of replacing the shocks and struts.

Even without new shocks, over all, these springs give a much better ride quality and improved drivability. They perform much better than OEM springs and make the driving experience very fun.
